Moonstone is a sodium potassium aluminium silicate of the feldspar group that exhibits a pearly and opalescent appearance. When light hits the stone it produces the phenomenon called adularescence. Adularescence is the metallic iridescence originating from below the surface of a stone, that occurs when light is reflected between layers of minerals. Adularescence can also be found in other feldspar minerals such as Labradorite.
