Ammonite is a fossil of a shelled cephalopod from about 416 million years ago, usually appearing in a coiled, spiral shape. The extinction of Ammonites coincided with the extinction of dinosaurs. They are made from the calcium carbonate mineral Aragonite, but over long time periods, this changes into the more stable mineral form of calcium carbonate, Calcite.
