Selenite is named after the Ancient Greek goddess of the moon, Selene. It is a variety of gypsum and forms as white, translucent crystals with striations and a shiny luster. Selenite can be found all over the world and forms in enormous deposits and beds of sedimentary rocks such as limestone or clay.
