Sodalite is a rock-forming mineral best known for its blue color and is a member of the feldspathoid mineral group. The feldspathoids are a group of tectosilicate minerals that resemble feldspars but have a different structure and much lower silica content. Sodalite occurs in igneous rocks that crystallized from sodium-rich magmas. This is the origin of the name "sodalite."
