Almandine is the most common species of garnets found worldwide. The most excellent specimens of almandine garnets come from Austria and Italy. Almandine of lower quality is commonly found in Australia, China, the Czech Republic, and Brazil. Garnet is composed of iron aluminum silicate. The iron is sometimes partially replaced with magnesium and manganese.
