Black tourmaline, also called Schorl, accounts for up to 95% of all tourmaline in nature. Black tourmaline belongs to a family of aluminum borosilicates mixed with iron, magnesium, or other various metals. Its prismatic, vertically striated crystals may be long and slender, or thick and columnar, and are uniquely triangular in cross-section.
