Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. Rhodochrosite draws its name from two Greek words, rhodon meaning 'rose' and chroma meaning 'color.' This stone dates back to the ancient Inca civilization. In its rare pure form, it is typically a rose-red color, but most specimens are found in shades of pink to pale brown. It is found in a small number of locations worldwide such as Argentina, Germany, England, and Spain.
